Parents will be provided with continuing information regarding their child’s progress and school activities through:

- Student Learning Conferences in Terms 1 and 3
- Written student reports in Terms 2 and 4
- Fortnightly newsletters

Compass School Manager
Compass is a school management solution that allows parents and carers to access up-to-date and meaningful information about your school and your child’s progress. Compass includes many different features, including the ability to:
- Monitor your child’s attendance, and enter an explanation for absence or lateness
- Communicate with your child’s teachers, and update your family contact details
- View your child’s timetable and the school calendar
- Monitor your child’s homework and assessment tasks
- Download and view your child’s academic reports
- Book parent-teacher conferences
- Pay and provide consent for events and school fees

Canteen
Carranballac P-9 College has tendered out the operation of the Canteen to H&H Canteens.
The Canteen is opened for lunch orders and over the counter sales at recess and lunch time. Lunch orders can be placed online through My School Connect. Attached is information to enable parents to register. Once registered you will be able to view and select from the menu.

Uniform
The wearing of the school uniform is compulsory and sensible clothing is expected at all times.

Hats
Carranballac Buckets Hats are compulsory in the warmer months and can be purchased from the school office (in addition to the PSW Store). We have a ‘Hats On’ policy in Terms 1 and 4, all students must wear a school hat whilst outside (i.e., during recess, lunch, PE) during these Terms.
Shoes
Primary students are to wear suitable shoes for running around. Black leather lace-up or Velcro shoes are encouraged.
Secondary students must wear black lace up shoes. On days where they have PE or Sports subjects, secondary students may wear runners with their sports uniform.
T-bar or Mary Janes styles shoes are not permitted for any year level.
Sports Uniform
Secondary students are only permitted to wear the Sports Uniform to school on days when they have PE or Sports subjects. No ‘mix and match’ is permitted between the sports and academic uniform.
Primary students do not have a specific sports uniform.
Accessories
School ties are compulsory for secondary students in Terms 2 and 3.
With the exception of one set of stud/sleeper earrings, jewellery is not to be worn. The wearing of makeup and nail polish is not permitted. Students may wear religious head covering.
Students may choose to purchase a Carranballac P-9 College backpack, or a school bag of their own choosing.

The wearing of the school uniform is compulsory and sensible clothing is expected at all times.

Restrictions
With the exception of a watch and one set of studs/sleeper earrings, jewellery is not to be worn. The wearing of makeup is not acceptable. On the odd occasion that students cannot wear appropriate school uniform to school, parents should provide a note to the Assistant Principal on the day this happens.

Outside School Hours Care
Our school has partnered with an independent provider called TheirCare to provide exceptional Outside School Hours Care services for our school community.
The program is available for all children at Carranballac P-9 College Boardwalk and Jamieson Campuses from 6:30am until 8:30am in the morning and from 3:00pm until 6:00pm each school day.
During School Holidays the service will operate from Carranballac P-9 College Jamieson Campus from 6:30am until 6:00pm.

Families are eligible for a Government Rebate called the Child Care Subsidy which can reduce the cost per session by up to 85%.

TheirCare provides a stimulating and safe environment for all children. During sessions, children develop life-skills, friendships, confidence and creativity through play-based programs.

Working with Children Check
Parents and other adults require a valid Working with Children Check if they are participating in voluntary work within the school. Please present your card at the school office when you sign in prior to beginning the work.

The Check is free of charge for volunteers.
Worker Screening Act 2020
The requirement to obtain a Working with Children Check where a person wants to engage in child-related work and the process to obtain the Working with Children Check is established by the Worker Screening Act 2020 (‘the Act’) which came into force on 1 February 2021 and repealed the Working with Children Act 2005.
The Act is one of the key pieces of legislation governing how we protect and promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in Victoria.

Our Committee organises and runs a number of events each year. We raise funds for amenities improvements and equipment to enhance our students’ learning and well-being. We also assist the school with activities that encourage a sense of community between students, staff, and parents.

BrainPop
BrainPop is a group of children’s educational websites based in New York City. It hosts over 1,000 short animated movies for students in grades K–12, together with quizzes and related materials, covering the subjects of science, social studies, English, math, engineering and technology, health, arts and music.
Funbrain
Funbrain is an educational browser game website for children and adults. It was on this site that Diary of a Wimpy Kid was first published before being turned into a successful book series and movie franchise.
ABCya.com
ABCya.com, L.L.C. is a website that provides educational games and activities for school-aged children. The games on the website are organized into grade levels from pre-kindergarten to Sixth grade, as well as into subject categories such as letters, numbers, and holidays.
Codeacademy
Codecademy is an American online interactive platform that offers free coding classes in 12 different programming languages including Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, Ruby, SQL, C++, C#, and Swift, as well as markup languages HTML and CSS.
Duolingo
Duolingo is an American educational technology company that produces learning apps and provides language certification. Founded in 2011 by Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker, it has become one of the world’s most popular online learning platforms.

Home Learning Resources
We are excited to share some wonderful online learning resources that your children can access for free at home! These websites and apps offer a variety of educational activities and lessons to support your child’s learning in different subjects. Below is a list of recommended resources, along with details about the content they offer and the age groups they are most suitable for.
1. Mathspace (Years 3-12, Website and App, available through our school’s membership)
Mathspace offers comprehensive math lessons and practice exercises aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Through our school’s membership, students can access the full suite of resources, and teachers can assign activities and track progress.
2. Stile (Years 5-10, Website only, available through our school’s membership)
Stile provides full access to interactive science lessons and resources that are directly aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. Teachers can assign lessons and monitor student progress through this platform. Secondary students will receive access invitation through school email, primary students and parents please contact their classroom teacher for access.
3. Khan Academy (All ages, K-12 and beyond, Website and App)
Khan Academy offers a comprehensive suite of lessons, exercises, and practice tests across various subjects. This platform caters to all ages, making it a versatile tool for lifelong learning.
4. Khan Academy Kids (Ages 2-8, Pre-K to Year 2, App only)
